In terms of sword fighting you have a lot of options. If you are looking for something modern (foil, epee and sabre) many cities have fencing clubs ( check local university listings). If you are looking for oriental styles do some research on the various martial arts and choose the one that appeals to you most - Tai Chi, Akido and Kung Fu, just to name a couple, all have a sword component, but this is often taught only to more advanced students. In terms of European arms you need to look up historically accurate sword fighting groups - ARMS, and Knights of the Northern Realm are two in Alberta, Canada. Stay away from most SCA classes if you are really wanting to learn how to fight properly since most of their weapons are mock ups made of wood etc. that are not weighted properly to give you the feel of the actual weapons. Try out a class and if you don't like the instructor look for a different one - when learning martial arts it is important that you can trust and respect your instructor.
